NEW DELHI, Aug 20 (Reuters) - India's monsoon rainfall deficit since the beginning of the season on June 1 narrowed to 27 percent by Aug. 18, government sources told Reuters on Thursday.
Rainfall was 29 percent below average until Aug. 12.
The June-September rains over the cane-growing northwest India narrowed by 6 percentage points to 37 percent.
The shortfall in the soybean-growing region of central India widened by 3 percentage points to 22 percent, the sources said.
