NEW DELHI, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Many state governments in India have asked food and beverage companies to give details of sugar stocks they hold, the Economic Times reported on Monday, a move seen to check rising trend in retail prices.
The firms, including Coca-Cola , Nestle and Pepsico India , have asked lobby group Confederation of Indian Industry to take up the issue with the government, it said.
Rising food prices and poor monsoon have driven many state governments, including Maharashtra, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, to impose stock limits.
