NEW DELHI, Aug 28 (Reuters) - India will receive 225,000 tonnes of raw sugar in September, and deliveries this month have totalled about 260,000 tonnes, two trade sources told Reuters on Friday.
Imports of whites were at 97,863 tonnes in August, they said, adding there may not be refined sugar shipments in September delivery due to high global prices.
"Most of these raw sugar cargoes are from the deals that were struck at $390-$400 per tonne, while whites were imported at $450 a tonnes," one source said.
Sugar mills in India, the world's top consumer of the sweetner, have placed orders to import 4 million tonnes of raws in the season from October 2008 as output is set to drop 44 percent to 14.8 million tonnes this year.
