NEW DELHI, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Water in India's main reservoirs rose to 38 percent of their capacity, up 2 percentage points from a week ago, government data showed on Thursday.
Monsoon rainfall has been well below average in the past three weeks, and the water level in reservoirs was well below the 10-year average of 45 percent in mid-August.
Reservoirs are important for hydropower, which accounts for a quarter of India's generation capacity. They also provide water to irrigate winter crops.
