India may need to pay more for new season cane

NEW DELHI, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Indian sugar mills may need to pay an average price of 180-200 rupees per 100 kg to farmers for buying sugarcane in the new season from October, Narendra Murkumbi, chief of Shree Renuka Sugars, a leading producer, told a conference on Tuesday.

Mills in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, the biggest cane producer, had paid an average 140 rupees per 100 kg to farmers in the current season. (Reporting by Mayank Bhardwaj and Lewa Pardomuan)
