NEW DELHI, Sept 1 (Reuters) - India will have to import 30 percent of its domestic sugar demand in the new season from October, Narendra Murkumbi, chief executive officer of Shree Renuka Sugars , a leading producer, told reporters on Tuesday.
Murkumbi said India's 2009/10 sugar demand was expected to be 23 million tonnes.
Industry officials say Indian mills have contracted 4 million tonnes of raws so far in the current season, and out of the imported quantity 1 milllion tonnes of raws will be processed before the current season ends in September, while the rest will be carried over to the next season.
